Travel tips
  • Go the Shimla side up and Manali side down to acclimatise gradually to the altitude.
  • Homestays are cheap, warm and often include dinner and breakfast — book on arrival.
  • Carry cash — ATMs are scarce and unreliable beyond Reckong Peo and Kaza.
  • Season is roughly Jun–Sep; the Kunzum Pass (Manali side) stays snow-blocked otherwise.
